Issuing company's press release

The company's pioneering single-material barrier tube became the first tube/cap combination successfully tested through the EU's cross-industry initiative, promoting an increase in recycling and plastic recycling.

Oberdisbach, Switzerland-Hoffmann Neopac is a global supplier of high-quality packaging for pharmaceuticals, beauty and oral care. Its Polyfoil® MMB single-material barrier tube has been approved by RecyClass, which is product protection, user-friendliness and A groundbreaking combination of attractive aesthetics.

RecyClass-a European-based cross-industry initiative dedicated to improving the recyclability of plastic packaging and establishing a coordinated approach to recycling content-tested and approved innovative new tubes that include food, cosmetics, dental and Pharmaceutical applications. The analysis was carried out by IKTR on PP containers in accordance with the RecyClass recyclability assessment protocol, and its approval marks the first PP tube/cap combination successfully tested by RecyClass.

Compared with traditional laminated tubes, Neopac's Polyfoil® MMB tube can reduce the packaging carbon footprint by as much as 38%. The tube body is made through a pioneering adhesive lamination process-in stark contrast to existing blown film and extruded film solutions recently adopted by major oral care brands. Advantages: The tube body has advanced barriers and beautiful choices. The shoulder and cap of the tube are made of low MFI HDPE and only 2% foreign matter.

According to laboratory results, the "Polyfoil® MMB Tube PF528" product complies with the current European PP container recycling process, provided it is used under specific conditions. Tests have shown that the recycled plastic can be reused as PP blow-molded bottles in high-end or closed-loop applications, up to 25% of this material. In addition, the sorting behavior of materials is evaluated by Suez.Circpack® according to the RecyClass sorting evaluation protocol, which proves that metallized pipes can be sorted in the PP rigid flow.

Thanks to Neopac's advances in materials science, Polyfoil® MMB has achieved these goals while maintaining the attractive printing and decoration options known for Neopac's traditional Polyfoil® tubes. This solution has an uncompromising metal appearance, and when combined with Neopac's HDPE screws and hinge seals, it can be fully recycled in the PE rigid stream.

For RecyClass, Neopac's Polyfoil® MMB testing reflects the plastics industry's efforts to develop high-end PP barrier tubes compatible with dedicated recycling streams. The proliferation of new packaging technologies and new products in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, is consistent with the principle of enhanced recycling, which demonstrates the firm commitment of value chain participants and helps increase the EU’s overall recycling goals and further achieve the goals of plastic recycling .

The first series of Polyfoil® MMB tubes will be available in January 2022, and pharmaceutical customers are already conducting stability tests.
