There were reports on Saturday that the waters near Huntington Beach were greasy. The authorities were eager to determine if another spill threatened the coast of Orange County, but when night fell, they were unable to find oil and suspected that a small amount of oil had dissipated.

Officials said state and federal authorities responded to the spot where the oil was found near the broken pipeline early in the afternoon, which caused a major oil spill on October 2.

"It's a faint gloss, not a smooth," said Richard Brabham, a non-commissioned officer of the United States Coast Guard. "The Coast Guard and [California Department of Fish and Wildlife] formed a team. They are currently investigating the matter."

He said that this gloss reportedly covers a 70-foot x 30-foot area and compares it to the colorful vortex that appears in the water when diesel gas is splashed on a dock. Divers working for Amplified Energy reported that the company operated the oil platform and pipeline that caused the leak.

Brabham said that state and federal emergency responders have been unable to find the luster using ships and helicopters, and the reason has not been determined.

"This is not surprising; if you know these things, they will soon break up," he said.

The Coast Guard targets the second ship related to the Orange County oil spill

Authorities of the US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board believe that a ship’s anchor hit an oil pipeline off the coast of Huntington Beach, which eventually led to the oil spill on October 2.

Coast Guard officials reported in a tweet on Saturday afternoon: “The previous synthetic glass packaging has been removed from the pipeline and new packaging has been installed. Staff will monitor the production line at night to ensure effectiveness. Since October 2nd Since the first accident, the pipeline has been closed."

A spokesperson said that Amplify Energy did not comment on these reports.

State Senator D-Irvine said he is in contact with officials of the Fish and Wildlife Department and they are continuing the search.

"Maybe this is just some residue from pipeline repairs," he said in an interview.

"But whether this is another oil spill or not," he added, future oil spills are "inevitable until we get rid of these oil platforms along the coast."

Orange County Superintendent Katrina Foley described Saturday’s situation as “depressing”.

She said she had received reports from Huntington Beach officials on how tourists returned to the city.

"So we cannot continue to have such incidents or panic on the coastline," she said. "The coast here is really a tourist attraction... We have a solution to prevent this from happening: We must transition from offshore drilling."

A major oil spill along the coast of Huntington Beach in California washed up on nearby Orange County beaches, killing fish and birds and threatening local wetlands.

The October 2 spill released approximately 25,000 gallons of oil into the Strait of San Pedro. Authorities believe that the leak was caused by a ship’s anchor damaging a pipeline from an oil processing platform near Huntington Beach to the Port of Long Beach.

The October incident closed the beaches from Huntington to San Clemente; initially there were reports of 130,000 gallons of water leaking, which raised concerns about environmental disasters that would kill wildlife and pollution for years beach. However, most of the oil is in coastal areas and has not caused major damage to tidal habitats.

However, the rupture of the pipeline once again called for an end to drilling before a more devastating accident occurs.

Min pointed out that the aging infrastructure is no longer operated by companies like Shell Petroleum Corporation — which established the division in Huntington — but by smaller, “weakly capitalized” energy companies like Amplified. The company cannot afford proper maintenance costs.

Maritime officials said the platforms near Orange County have been dangerous due to heavy shipping from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

During the pandemic, supply chain bottlenecks caused dozens of cargo ships to berth in coastal oil drilling areas. Federal authorities believe that one of their anchors dragged the Amplify pipeline, causing it to rupture. On Thursday, agents boarded the container ship Beijing on Long Beach and identified it as the second ship to be investigated in the spill.

The official said in a statement that a Coast Guard investigator determined that Beijing was involved in an anchoring incident that occurred during the severe weather at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach on January 25. The Coast Guard has designated the ship’s owner. Acting as a stakeholder for Capetanissa Maritime Liberia and the operator V.Ships Greek Ltd..

Another cargo ship, MSC Danit, has previously been confirmed to be under investigation for breaking down.

Coast Guard Lieutenant Jason Neubauer, who is in charge of the investigation, told the New York Times that “both ships may be involved” earlier this year with anchors to tow the pipeline away from Huntington Beach.
